Google Glass were not placed before just any eyes. They were placed before EsglaiArt.
And unlike what most conference participants saw when they tried them on (taking photos, sharing things on Facebook, searching for GPS directions, etc.), we saw a whole world of possibilities related to art. Good and bad, depending on how you look at it. And depending on who wears them. Let me explain:
The positive (??) aspects of google glass for art lovers
For those passionate about visiting museums and always researching more information about the paintings, pictures or sculptures in front of them, Google Glass will be a real advancement, as it will allow them to perform searches with their eyes, without having to type anything. They will just have to look at a painting and say “Ok google glass” (the command you have to give the glasses to start any action), “search for information about this painting”. In a second, you will have information about the artist, the painting method, the year, the price, the museums it has been in, and probably indicating that it is now right where you are.
Painters, on the other hand, will be able to use Google Glass to not miss any scene of life, however spontaneous it may be, and be able to portray it later following that photograph. Like a couple dancing, an animal running at speed, a familiar person laughing out loud, or sunsets at the edge of dusk. Moments where seconds matter and there is no time to set up a camera and a tripod. Where a painting made a minute later will never be like the painting made at the perfect second.
They will also be able to draw without taking their eyes off the canvas. Thanks to Google Glass, they will be able to draw, with their own style, the image projected through their right eye. Whether it's the previously taken photograph or a combination of existing photographs on the web. Now more than ever, quality, style, and attention to detail will differentiate artists from one another.
Tutorials and videos in your eye will advise you in real-time on how to mix your oils on your board, which brush or bristle to use and which movement to trace on the canvas.
The information is readily available, already today, for everyone. This tool will just make everything a little easier, but a brush will never paint by itself. Colors will never be mixed to everyone's liking. Ideas, creativity, and originality will never be introduced into our heads. Or at least for now.
